Anyone who ever had to deal with cold sores knows how painful they can be. Talking about my own experience, I have a history of over 40 years of battling cold sores on and off. I am in my mid-forties now and remember that my first cold sore event was when I attended kindergarten.

There is never a good time for a cold sore episode. I was told that the Herpes virus is the cause of cold sores, and that this virus reacts to nerve cells, as they can be triggered by stress. Most people who are dealing with this problem will confirm that stress and problems correlate to fever blisters.

Most people have one or two stories about some secret remedy that always works but never does, and coming of age myself I realized that modern medicine works best for me, in spite of grandma’s special pastes. Some lotions and creams will help with the pain and the healing process, but none of the many different medicines worked particularly well for me.

My life changed when my doctor gave me a prescription for Valtrex, as this was the first time in my life that I was able to stop the progress completely. There are other famous blue pills that people appreciate, but Valtrex are by far my best friends. They come in large or small doses, half a gram or one gram.

What works for me might not work for you, and the only way to find out is talk to your doctor about it. Every situation is different, and just because I never had any problems for such a long time does not mean that Valtrex is completely harmless. It has done wonders for me but you need to examine your situation based on what your doctor tells you.

It is important to start treatment early on, before the manifestation of severe sores on your lips. Depending on what your doctor prescribes, take your medication and drink plenty of water as soon as possible. After a period of 2 to 4 hours, I take some more medication, about the same dosage, and this usually does the job for me, the battle has never been longer than a couple of hours at the most. I wish I could say that this works the same for everybody, but since we all react differently please instead listen to what your primary care physician or your pharmacy has told you.

For me, this always worked, and it stopped the Herpes virus before it could even manifest on the lips. This means, that I no longer had to deal with the painful endurance of slow healing blisters on my lips. And not to forget the perceived embarrassement of cold sores.

I do not remember ever having had any side effects that had to do with taking Valacyclovir for treating Herpes. This does not necessarily mean that there are no possible side effects of Valtrex for this type of treatment, but in my own experience I can not recall ever having any problems. You might have a very different way of dealing with Herpes and Cold Sores, but I no longer have to look around because I found my secret weapon long ago.

Growing up, I learned about a million different remedies and so-called secret methods to stop cold sores. From putting tooth paste on your lips, to eating certain foods, using creams and lotions, as well as all kinds of over the counter and prescription medication.

For me, the nightmare was finally over, when one day a very wise doctor handed me a prescription for Valtrex, also known under the generic name of Valacyclovir. They come as blue pills, but not to be confused with those other blue pills for sure, and I have gotten to know them with a dosage of 500 mg or 1 gram each.

Please keep in mind that I am simply talking about my own personal experience. I have been using Valtrex solely as needed at least for the last 10 years, and what works for me might not work for everybody else. However, I don’t take Valtrex regularily, but only as an emergency treatment immediately at the onset of a new cold sore outbreak.

I am happy to say that I have never had an event where Valtrex would not be able to stop the outbreak of Herpes on my lips. No longer do I have to go through the long ordeal of healing fever blisters in my face. Gone are the days of trying to conceal those painful blisters and hoping that nobody will see them.

I never had any problems taking this medication, and I have a proven track record of over a decade. Please keep in mind that I can only talk for myself, this is a personal blog and not a doctor speaking to you. I found my own way of dealing with Herpes infection, which at this point supposedly can not be cured. However, I know that I will always have an immediate remedy available and as a result it is no longer a big problem in my life.

Cold sores can be very annoying. I know this to be true as I have had them on more than one occasion. In fact, I have had them all my life. They come exactly when you really really can not afford to have them – and that is part of the evilness of these little lip monsters. They somehow react to stress and sometimes I was able to (or better: in spite of constantly thinking “hopefully not now”…) make them come! How scary is that. In terms of side effects, I have taken plenty of Valtrex in my life but I do not recall having had any problems. Mind that I am not a doctor and I am only talking about my personal experience. And no, I am not getting paid by Mr. Valtrex or whoever owns the brand.

How did I find out about it? My doctor recommended that I use Valtrex to treat the cold sores and the stuff really does work. This antiviral drug has been proven to slow herpes virus growth in the body so it can better fight off infection. Although my herpes virus is not cured when I use Valtrex, the symptoms aren’t as bad which is more than enough to satisfy me. I’m glad my doctor prescribed this.

The herpes virus was passed on to me when I was a young child. My parents and doctor were never able to figure out how I contracted it, nor does it matter, because from what I heard most people at some point in their lifes got in touch with it….  but I can remember how painful the cold sores were when I didn’t have medication.

When he first prescribed this medication, my valtrex dosage was two doses in one day. The doses were to be taken 12 hours apart. As I grew older, I expected the dose to change, but it didn’t. It remains just as effective now as it did when I first started taking it. I have had great relief when using this medication and would definitely recommend that anyone who suffers from herpes labialis or cold sores ask their doctor about this medication. I’m sure it will help you as much as it has helped me.

There are certain things that you need to tell your doctor before you take this medicine. He went over these with me before he gave me my first prescription and we reviewed them at my last appointment.  Hopefully you can say the same and get some relief from cold sores. I’m glad my doctor gave me this medication and I’m sure you will be too.

It is very important to realize that herpes has no cure.

You would think that with all the strides in modern medicine, there would be a cure for it, but there isn’t. There are 500mg, 1g caplets of a medicine called Valtrex that individuals can take that can help those with cold sores. You should not take more than the one day of a treatment of valtrex dosage for cold sores. Take the first dose, and then 12 hours later take a second dose when you are taking the medication for cold sores, and that is all you take. If you have a kidney problem of any kind, make sure your doctor knows or remembers.

You can take the valtrex dosage if you have genital herpes, but you still must be careful of spreading it. To obtain this prescription from your doctor he will explain to you that your immune system must be in a healthy state. He will also explain to you the side effects, which are dizziness, vomiting, stomach pain, sore throat, headaches and nausea so that you recognize them should they affect you. As with any new medication out on the market today, your doctor will explain whether it is to your advantage to take it.
